Roofing, Granny Flats and Tiny Homes, Built by One Trusted Northern Rivers team

NR Local Trades is a licensed Lismore builder specialising in roofing, granny flats and tiny homes across the Northern Rivers. Whether you need a new roof, an extra dwelling for family or rental income, or a compact off-grid home, our team handles the job from design through to completion under one roof, one point of contact, one standard of work. Licensed, insured and proudly local, we take the guesswork out of getting these projects done right.

Dekton isn't your average benchtop material. It's created through an advanced sintering process that fuses a blend of glass, porcelain and quartz materials under extreme heat and pressure — essentially replicating, and speeding up, the natural process that forms stone. The result is an ultra-compact surface with near-zero porosity, giving you a benchtop that's exceptionally tough and easy to live with.

If you've got a busy kitchen, a young family, or you're simply after something that'll still look brand new in ten years' time, Dekton ticks the boxes. It stands up to scratches, stains and everyday knocks far better than many traditional surfaces, and its heat resistance means you don't need to reach for a trivet every time something comes off the stove.

We're proud of the reputation we've built across Lismore and the wider Northern Rivers, and it shows in what our clients tell us. Time and again, the same themes come up in our reviews: we turn up when we say we will, we explain things clearly before any work starts, and we keep people updated at every stage of the job. Clients regularly mention our roofing and guttering work specifically, from full Colourbond roof replacements to gutter and downpipe upgrades, praising the professionalism, speed and tidiness of our crews.

Several reviews highlight our detailed, obligation-free quotes and the fact that we follow through on them without price surprises. Strata managers, homeowners and even people who are yet to book a job all comment on how approachable and low-pressure our team is. It's this consistency, being reliable, communicative and genuinely helpful, that keeps Northern Rivers locals recommending us to friends, family and neighbours.

Our Story: Specialists Where It Counts

We know the Northern Rivers, its climate, its floods, its building codes, and exactly what a roof, granny flat or tiny home needs to hold up here long after the trucks leave.

NR Local Trades officially opened its doors in 2020, but the trade knowledge behind it goes back more than 30 years. That experience showed us where homeowners get let down most: roofs patched instead of properly fixed, granny flat builds that drag on for months, and tiny home projects nobody local wants to touch. So we built a crew that focuses on getting these three jobs right, instead of spreading thin across everything.

Being local isn't just a tagline for us. We back Northern Rivers suppliers and tradespeople first, which keeps the work and the money in our own community. When we can't source something locally, Australian-made is always our next move.

We're also big on straight answers. Our team explains what's happening and why, in plain English, so you're never left guessing about your roof, your granny flat build or your tiny home project. These days, NR Local Trades is a crew of around 80 skilled locals strong, and the mission hasn't changed: do the job properly, back the local economy, and take the stress out of your project.

Curious what that looks like in practice? Have a look through our roofing, granny flat and tiny home work, or get in touch and we'll walk you through it.

Building and maintaining a property in Lismore, from the CBD out to the Wilson River floodplain suburbs, requires trades who understand local flood risk, wet season scheduling, and NSW compliance, not just the trade itself.

NR Local Trades brings roofing, guttering, solar, electrical, painting, carpentry, plumbing, excavation, tiny homes, granny flats, steel fabrication, and joinery together under one licensed, insured local team.

Meet the Boss: Temo van Tongeren, Owner

Temo van Tongeren founded NR Local Trades Group Pty Ltd after more than two decades in the industry, split between global corporate roles and hands-on construction work across the Northern Rivers.

His path into granny flats and tiny homes took a personal turn after the Lismore floods. Watching the housing shortage that followed, Temo launched Chill Mobile Apartments, a business building high-end, fully-automated mobile homes designed to give people genuine, liveable options when they needed them most. That project is the reason granny flats and tiny homes sit at the centre of what we do today.

Temo runs his businesses by a simple rule: a ship sitting safely in harbour was never built to just sit there. It's the same mindset behind NR Local Trades: take the calculated risk, back yourself, and build something better than what came before.

With a Bachelor of Business Administration alongside his qualifications as a roof plumber and licensed construction company owner, Temo sits at the crossroads of corporate know-how and genuine trade skill, which is exactly what makes our roofing, granny flat and tiny home builds hold up.

The Crew Behind the Crew

Temo doesn't do it alone. Around 80 skilled locals make up the NR Local Trades team, including licensed roofers and dedicated granny flat and tiny home builders, working across the region every day. It's this crew, not just one name on the door, that gets your roof, granny flat or tiny home project done properly
